Good questions. Many parents believe that a change in nutrition will make a major difference in quality of life. Some info is related to allergies. You may want to search this out as well.
ReplyDeleteI have found that to be true. I have narrowed down my search to focus on Autism, Asperger's and PDD. I found an amazing website that I will be posting about in a couple of days. It is the Motherboard for information and support surrounding Autism!
ReplyDeleteNaomi,
ReplyDeleteI have heard reports of the symptoms of autism subsiding dramatically after chemical cleaners and similar house hold products have been removed from the home, along with the elimination of pesticides and preservatives in diet. I have also met people who have said that they began to feel completely different, with lots more energy once eating a gluten free diet. This website:
http://www.carmelclinic.com/Autism-Biomedical.htm
has information on how the following variables can be attributed to autism, ADD, ADHD, and PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder).
Metabolism of organic acids, fatty acids, and amino acids. Mitochondrial and cellular capacity, Dysfunction of the digestive tract, Impairment of the detoxification capacity of the liver and kidneys, Toxic and nutrient metals, Fungal overgrowths, Parasitic infestation, Vaccine history and schedule, Underlying immune reactions to foods and additives beyond gluten and casein, Neurotransmitter production and regulation, Blood and tissue levels of key vitamins and minerals. I know that's quite a list! How overwhelming if you were a parent.
Once tested to see how the above variables affects your child you can work to support improved brain function, hopefully eliminating some of the symptoms. This is not traditional medicine, but it seems to me that traditional medicine has found a way to help these children at a signifigant rate.
I can't wait to hear about what you find!
